How to Minimize Rust Game: A Player's Guide to Fixing Fullscreen Issues

As a long-time Rust player, I've encountered the frustrating issue of the game minimizing every time I alt-tab. If you're wondering how to minimize Rust game problems, particularly this fullscreen bug, I've got some firsthand experience to share.

The root of this problem lies in the Unity engine upgrade that Rust implemented. While it brought performance benefits for most players, it also introduced this annoying minimize issue for some of us.

Here's what I've found works:

  1. Avoid using ALT + ENTER to enter fullscreen mode. This seems to trigger the bug.
  2. If you're already experiencing the problem, try this launch parameter: "-window-mode borderless"

To use this parameter:

  • Right-click Rust in your Steam library
  • Select Properties
  • Click Set Launch Options
  • Type in "-window-mode borderless" (without quotes)
  • Click OK and launch the game

This reverts Rust to the previous fullscreen mode, which should solve the minimize issue.

I've been using this fix since it was released in February 2019, and it's worked like a charm. No more unexpected minimizing when I'm in the middle of a firefight!
